St Raphael's School Supports Sudan Orphanage
A parent of one of our pupils Mai Abdelhafiz who is originally from Sudan told us about the plight of children in orphanages in Sudan. Mai is part of a group of women in Ireland who are trying to help these children. She told us that one thing that is sadly lacking in the orphanages is access to music.
As a school we decided to raise funds to buy CD Players for these Institutes and also to do a collection of CDs which we could send to the children. At a coffee morning on 23 May 2014 the school raised €365.00 and collected 400 music CDs which Mai will take to the orphanages when she next visits Sudan at the end of June.
St Raphael's School is hoping to become a sister school to three Institutes caring for children with special needs in Sudan; El-Maygoma Institute (for children from birth to four years), the Future Institute (for girls from 4-18 years) and the Protection Institute (for boys from 4-18 years). All three of these facilities are overcrowded and not adequately equipped. We intend to link with these Institutes and involve our children by regularly sending letters and pictures.
