National Proclamation Day
The 15 March 2016 was National Proclamation Day. All schools in Ireland were invited to raise the national flag and read out the 1916 Proclamation as well as pupils' own proclamations. Our school held an event attended by pupils, parents and friends.
Three of our pupils (Scott, Peter and Alan) read out our school's Proclamation for a new Generation. Our teacher Natasha conveyed this through LÁMH sign Language.
A souvenir book 'The Rebellion in Dublin April 1916' was presented by Lucy Monaghan. Class 11 pupils planted a tree and the poem 'Our Rowan Tree' was read out. A bird house was presented to the school by Sharon Richardson from Horizons.
As the flag was raised by Roisin Condron from the Irish Defence Forces, our pupil Robi led the singing of the National Anthem 'Amhràn na Bhfiann'. The ceremony was topped off by a flypast from Weston Aerodrome who trailed a tri-colour Irish Flag above the school.
